Confessions of a shopaholic

Confessions of a shopaholic is a book which my last teacher, Beata suggests me to read. This is a very interesting novel which is written by Sophie Kinsella in 2000. Sophie Kinsella is a writer and former financial journalist. She is very, very careful with her money and only occasionally finds herself queuing for a sale. She has written four books about shopaholic, which are Confession of a Shopaholic, Shopaholic Ties the knot, Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, and Shopaholic and sister. Becky is the main character in those books. Kinsella describes the change of her life through those books.

Confession of a shopaholic is her first book about shopaholic; furthermore, the story happened before Becky meets her boyfriend. The writer, Sophie Kinsella describes that a shopaholic, Becky Bloomwood’s mixed life, and how Becky tries to stop shopping. Actually, Kinsella is a very good writer, and she uses very facetious way to describe the whole story. I always laugh when I read this book. The main character in this book is Becky Bloomwood who is writing for a financial magazine which is called Successful Saving Magazine. She has what most twenty-five-olds only dream of: a flat in London’s trendiest neighborhood, a troupe of glamorous socialite friends, and a closet brimming with the season’s must-haves. The only trouble is that she can not actually afford it-not any of it. Even though she is working in financial magazine, she does not know how to manage money and is a shopaholic. She uses Visa spent a lot of money for shopping; therefore, she owes bank much money. When she is trying to solve this problem, she meets her boyfriend. Consequently, she wants to change her lifestyle; hoverer, she is never successful about stopping shopping because she is always telling herself that that is the last little thing buys for her.

Actually, I have not finished this book yet. However, that is very interesting book with a lot of fun. If you read this book, I will find that author is using the story let her readers to see the world. I like this book.

I wonder if Becky will get out of her situation all right -- and if she does, how will she do it? I guess it's too much to expect that her new boyfriend will be fabulously rich . . .

But then, how many TV shows have you seen with people in them who live impossibly expensive lives with no explanation? Look at "Friends," for example. How can they afford those huge apartments in Manhattan? Those places would be at least $2500 per month -- maybe a lot more. I think in shows like that you are really watching advertisers trying to make us all think that it's normal to spend a lot of money all the time and be good consumers, so that we'll feel like there's something wrong with us if we don't.

But maybe that's something Kinsella is aware of (I don't know, I haven't read the book) . . .
